How does it work?

Advanced Open Water Scuba: To be qualified, an applicant must NOT be currently certified, nor currently enrolled in an AOW Scuba course. Your status will be verified with all major certification entities.

The Process

The process is quite straight forward. Simply download the appropriate set of forms. Follow the directions as they are written, and then submit the packet to us by the deadline indicated with the nominal application fee. Failure to follow the directions or submitting your packet in a timeframe beyond the indicated deadline, may result in a rejection of your packet. If your packet is accepted, you will be notified via the email address [provided by you.

The Selection

After your packet has been submitted, your name will be input into a program designed to randomly select a winner of the scholarship. If you are selected, you will be notified via the email address provided by you. Upon selection, we will announce your name on the "Scholarship Recipients" page of this website, which is accessible via the button above.

The Training

Training will take place in one of 2 ways:

Your training will more than likely take place at a Scuba Schools International (SSI) dive center. If you are trained by one of our instructors, you will absolutely be trained by an SSI instructor.

Your Responsibilities

As with anything, you will be responsible for some things. As is customary with the diving community, your scholarship will NOT cover the cost of your initial equipment. You will need to purchase a facemask, snorkel, and fins. You may also be required to purchase a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB, OR SMB). Rental of all other dive equipment such as your Buoyancy Control Device (BCD), regulator set, weight belt, and wetsuit is normally included in the cost of your training, and therefore is covered by your scholarship. What IS NOT included in the scholarship, is the purchase of the aforementioned gear. If you are trained with one of our instructors, you will have the opportunity to purchase the gear you used to become certified, if you liked the gear. You will be afforded the opportunity to purchase it at a discount.

Closing

In closing, we wish you luck in the application process. Diving is an EXTREMELY gratifying sport! We can't wait to welcome you into this awesome hobby!
